| Development Fund Launched for Childnet September 2000 |
In order to respond to the increasing challenges of making the Internet a great place for Children, Childnet International has recently launched a major new fundraising initiative to establish a DEVELOPMENT FUND. This fund has a target of £250,000 and will enable Childnet to invest in new staff and resources and lay the foundation for the development of 6 new exciting projects. Already 2 major UK organisations have supported this Fund. The Sainsbury Charitable Trust has pledged £71,500 over 3 years so that Childnet can appoint a full time Policy Officer. Leading UK ISP, Freeserve has also backed Childnet by donating the value of shares from its recent flotation which were unallocated (in total over £10,000).
Nigel Williams, Childnet's Director says "to have received a third of the target of the Development Fund within 2 months of its launch has been a tremendous encouragement and means we can further develop Childnet' work to meet the challenges. I hope that other International organisations will also join our UK donors."
Childnet has produced a new document which outlines the Development Fund and the six new exciting projects which it seeks to develop. For a copy of this document and Childnet's latest Annual Review contact Stephen Carrick-Davies stephen@childnet-int.org.
