Thales UK, who employ over 2000 people in Crawley, has donated £40,000 to Childnet International, the registered charity committed to making the Internet a safer place for children.

Tim Robinson, Senior Vice President Thales Secure Operations, presented a cheque for £40,000 to Childnet at a special Childnet action day held at the Gatwick Road site of Thales Training & Simulation. Students from Hazelwick school were invited to TT&S and were encouraged to use the Internet using Childnet’s five simple ‘SMART’ safety tips. The children also had the opportunity to board a flight simulator and see some of the leading Thales technology at first hand. The day included a session for Thales employee parents who were able to get advice from Childnet.

Tim Robinson said “One of the ways Thales has become the largest electronics organisation in Europe is by recruiting and developing young people with a strong interest in technology. This thirst for knowledge starts at an early age and we need to encourage our children to find out about the world around them in as safe a manner as possible.” “Childnet International is able to positively impact hundreds of thousands of lives and we are pleased to be able to give back to our community by supporting the continued efforts of this worthy organisation."

Receiving the donation on behalf of Childnet International was Chief Executive, Nigel Williams who said ”The Internet is a valuable resource but there are some sites and people who use the Internet that we must protect our children from. We can only do this through education and working in partnership with parents, educators, child welfare agencies, content providers, access providers, police, government and policy makers.“ “ We are very grateful to Thales for this significant contribution to our work.”
