Why is e-safety important?
E-safety is becoming increasingly important to understand for teachers entering the profession. The know IT All for Trainee Teachers DVD contains
a film called Jenny’s Story which outlines one of the greatest risks to children when using the Internet, that of online grooming which could lead to physical
harm. This DVD has been made available free of charge to tutors at all ITT institutions in England. Along with the DVD there is an e-safety leaflet for trainee
teachers which covers the full range of issues that affect children regarding content, contact and commercialism that they might encounter when online or using mobile
phones. You can download the leaflet by clicking on the link below.
About Jenny’s Story
Jenny's Story is a short film based on a true story of Jenny, a teenager who chats to a stranger on the Internet. It shows how, through chatting online, Jenny reveals personal information which results in her being contacted in real life and ultimately hurt.
The Know IT All for Trainees DVD contains the film Jenny's Story. Jenny's Story illustrates one of the greatest dangers to children when using the internet: that of online grooming which could lead to physical harm. This is defined by the Home Office as:
"A course of conduct enacted by a suspected paedophile, which would give a reasonable person cause for concern that any meeting with a child arising from the conduct would be for unlawful purposes."
