Special Educational Needs (SEN)
As a new teacher, you are likely to be teaching young people with special educational needs, including those with emotional and behavioural difficulties or learning difficulties. These young people will also be accessing the internet like their peers and enjoying the opportunities offered by social networking sites and other websites.
To support young people with particular needs, you can access and download a range of SEN resources from Childnet international. These include BSL versions of the SMART rules and Widget flash cards which can be used to teach e-safety using symbols.
Our cyberbullying film ‘Let’s fight it together’ is subtitled as are the Adventures of Captain Kara and Winston and the SMART Crew for primary aged pupils. Captain Kara is also available in British Sign Language.
You can also access CEOP’s SEN resources here. These include the film ‘Sam’s real friends’ for secondary aged pupils. The film features young actors using British Sign Language and explores issues to do with online friendships.
Support
Childnet is grateful to the TDA who have supported and funded the development of this resource.
