About this section for Trainees and NQTs

Aims:

In 2011, The TDA supported Childnet to provide advice to Trainee and NQTs on a range of issues. This led to the development of the Social Networking Guide, the Teachers and Technologies checklist, and the Matrix of Resources. The focus is to prepare and equip new teachers with information to help them in the safe and responsible use of technology in their teaching, as well as helping to inform them about e-safety and what resources are available for teachers on this subject.

Background:

The origins of this section was the result of a major pilot programme carried out in February 2007 with some 400 secondary teacher trainees reviewing the Know IT All and Microsoft e-safety content as part of their teacher training programmes in Middlesex, Brighton, Canterbury and Southampton Universities.

The research was commissioned by Childnet International to identify how e-safety education could be incorporated into the current initial teacher education at secondary phase. It sought to assess the needs of initial teacher education providers in relation to e-safety education for ICT trainee teachers. The research and has been funded by Microsoft, the Training and Development Agency for Schools and Becta.

The final report recommended that an online portal should be developed with resources, information and advice, specifically to meet the needs of secondary trainee teachers and their tutors.
