Clicker 5 SMART adventure
Childnet have teamed up with cricksoft.com to create a version of The Adventures of Kara, Winston and the Smart Crew in Clicker 5.
The animation covers Childnet's 5 SMART rules, which have been proven to be effective in helping younger children understand the importance of keeping safe online.
In order to see the SMART Adventure in Clicker 5, you will need to have the Clicker 5 software loaded on your computer – Clicker 5 is available from cricksoft.com. If you have Clicker 5 you can access the clicker version of the Smart Adventure and the SMART rules at LearningGrids World. On the learning grids world site you will need to sign in using an e-mail address and password, and this is free. Then type SMART Adventure or SMART Rules into the search box on the page.
Through their travels Kara and Winston use the internet, mobile phones, social networking pages and chat, to negotiate and find their way through the adventure. On their journey they are able to interact with a real life SMART crew who give advice to help Kara and Winston stay safe.
There are two Clicker resources which accompany the animation. They are designed to include and support children with special needs in thinking about e-safety issues.
- There is a simplified Clicker version of the adventure in an on-screen talking book format. It covers the five chapters of the story, and offers the opportunity for reinforcement of the key KidSMART messages.
- There is also the Clicker presentation of the SMART Rules for online safety. This focuses specifically on the five safety rules covered in the animation.
With Clicker, children develop their writing skills by clicking on cells containing whole words, phrases or pictures in the Clicker Grid. Sets of linked grids enable pupils to access an unlimited number of words and pictures that provide a framework or scaffolding for their writing.
Clicker 5 is the latest version of the award-winning Clicker – a powerful and easy to use multimedia and writing support tool for children of all ages and abilities. As well as writing simple documents, children can also create multimedia talking books using pictures, sounds and even videos.
Schools across the UK and abroad are using Clicker 5 and the additional resources available at LearningGrids World, to support the learners in their class to develop their reading and writing skills. A number of templates and downloadable resources are also included with this software.
Clicker is used in over 90% of primary schools in the UK, with over 70,000 registered users of their LearningGrids World Site.
