What’s In ‘Know IT All for Parents’?

Know IT All for Parents has been designed to help families get the most out of using the internet and mobile phone. It contains advice for parents about keeping children safe. It has been designed to be easy to use, and includes videos to make it more interesting as well as short tutorials for those parents who are new to computers. It also contains fact sheets and further information for those parents who are already familiar with the Internet and want to know more. The section below describes the content of Know IT All for Parents and includes some sample videos from some of the sections.

Depending on your connectivity it may take a few minutes for the video files to be downloaded on these pages.

The CD-ROM has three main sections:

01: WATCH

Know IT All: watch sectionIf you just want to sit back and watch and listen, this section contains a short presentation which will tell you all about Know IT All for Parents and what’s in it. It will also give you some good advice about how to stay safe. You can listen to this section in English, Urdu and Bengali.

02: INTERACT

Know IT All: how can the internet help me and my family?This section is the biggest part of the CD-ROM and has three parts:

HOW CAN THE INTERNET HELP ME AND MY FAMILY? – In this section we introduce you to a number of different families to show how they are using the internet and all the things that they do online to make life easier. There is a special activity centre which contains games and quizzes that you can do with your children.

Know IT All: how can I help my children stay safe?HOW CAN I HELP MY CHILDREN STAY SAFE? – In this section we give you some advice about how to keep your children safe when they are using the internet or their mobile phone. We also suggest useful tools for parents, and places you can go to report problems.

I’M NEW TO COMPUTERS – This section shows you how to find your way around your computer and the internet, including how to use the mouse, and how to get to a website. Whilst it is designed for those parents who have less computing experience, it also contains tutorials on some useful features of the Internet browser which can be used to help keep your children safer.

03: INFO CENTRE

Know IT All: info centreThe info centre is for people who want more. We’ve included lists of organisations you can contact, websites you can look at, lots of information for you to read or print out, and a lot more that we think you will find useful. The Glossary contains lots of terms which are commonly used about Internet and mobile phones.
