There are organisations who can help if you or your child get into difficult situations on the internet or mobile phone. If you know about a child who is in immediate danger, or you need an urgent response, always call 999 and contact your local police. If you suspect, or know, that your child is being “groomed” by a stranger over the internet or feel that there is inappropriate behaviour going on, you can report this directly to the police through a special Virtual Global Taskforce website. All reports are taken seriously and a police officer will get in contact with you.
Who can you report cyberbullying to? Well it really depends on the seriousness of the bullying and where it's happening. Either way it’s always a good idea to start with the provider of the service where the bullying occurred, whether that's a website owner, or a mobile phone operator. It helps to keep records of bullying emails or text messages as evidence. If your child is being cyberbullied by pupils in their school, then you should talk to the school and they should be able to help.
If you know of a child who is upset by any contact they have had with anyone on the internet or mobile phone, they can always call ChildLine in confidence on 0800 11 11.
