Finding things out

The internet is all about finding information quickly, whenever you need it.

Maxine, aged 33

Maxine likes using the internet for learning and information. She lives in Liverpool with her son Danny, who is now 9. She works part-time in a bar in the city centre and often has to do evening work. Maxine wanted to learn more about computers, so when she’s not working during the day, she likes going on the internet to learn about computers with Learn Direct. It means that she can study whenever she has the time, and at her own pace. Maxine’s really got the hang of searching and using the internet to find things out. For example, when Danny’s dad is visiting, Maxine usually goes to meet him at the airport, and uses the internet to look up the flight arrival times before setting off which she says is so useful and saves them waiting if the flight is delayed.

Danny, aged 9

Danny likes using the internet for learning. He's 9 years old and loves school, except he feels he’s really bad at maths. However his maths teacher Mr Moore told him about Bitesize, a BBC website which can help with maths revision and homework and the other day when Danny had some homework to draw an isosceles triangle he looked it up on the internet and it really helped him. In fact, he got an A in his maths, so maybe he’s not so bad at maths after all! Danny also really likes Froguts.com, it’s a website where you can learn about anatomy by dissecting a virtual frog. Mum doesn’t like it but then she’s squeamish about things like that.
