Using the internet

The internet is a worldwide network that links together millions of computers and lets them exchange information and work together.

In order to connect your home computer to the internet you need to find an Internet Service Provider and set up an account. They will give you the bits and pieces of equipment you need for your computer, and tell you what to do.

Once you are connected then you can send and receive email, look at web pages and use a wide variety of different programs for photo sharing, messaging and other things.

If you want to look at pages on the World Wide Web then you will need a program called a web browser. You probably already have a web browser on your computer—every Windows PC comes with Internet Explorer.
